Association of African Election Authorities Holds 1st Meeting Since COVID-19 Pandemic

The Association of African Election Authorities have held its first meeting since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the African continent.

The Association met at their Secretariat at the head office of the Electoral Commision (EC) of Ghana in Accra on Thursday, May 12 and Friday, May 13, 2022.

The Association, during the meeting, resolved to improve their performance in achieving successful elections in Africa.

"We the members of Executive Committee of the AAEA remain committed to the professional, free and fair conduct of elections on the continent", a statement issued by the Association read.

Present at the meeting was President of the Executive Committee, Mrs Jean Mensa who is Ghana's Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Wafula Chebukati, President of the General Assembly who happens to be the Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of Kenya, Rt. Rev. Carlos S. Matsinhe, Vice President of the Executive Committee and M. Amadou Ba, Vice President, General Assembly.
 
The representative of West Africa, M. Doudou Ndir, representative of Southern Africa, Justice Dr. Chifundo Kachale and  Dr. Morouba M. Barthelemy, Central Africa representative also appended their signatures to the communique.
