Under-pressure Hearts of Oak board member Vincent Odotei has explained the reason why the Phobians decided to part ways with former coach, Samuel Boadu.

The 36-year-old, who guided the 21-time Ghana champions to 5 titles in 2 seasons, was at the Accra Sports Stadium to offer his backing to his former club as they took on Malian opposition AS Real Bamako.

Once again the former Medeama coach’s strong connections with the teeming followers of the Rainbow club was evident as he was carried shoulders high at the final whistle by fans.

Though Hearts failed to secure qualification to the final play-off stage of the competition, fans passionately cheered the coach and went ahead to attack two board members, Vincent Odotei and Alhaji Brimah Akanbi.

Samuel Boadu’s side had gone 8 successive games in the league without winning and according to Odotei, the bad spell of results compelled the board to axe him.

“Boadu came in and did very well but you see out of 15 away matches we won only one, our win on Sunday was the first win in about 10 matches and this were reasons why we were not comfortable at board level. Look it got to a time he was not able to give us hope for the future,” he told Accra-based Hot FM.

The Phobians have now exited the competition and would now have to focus their attention on domestic trophies available with the injuncted 2022/23 Ghana Premier League title and the MTN FA Cup trophies still available for grasp.
