JJ Is Jealous Of Kufuor

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has implored Ghanaians to take ex-President Rawlings persistent allegations against former President Kufuor, with a pinch of salt. Ex-President Rawlings, addressing a rally to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the June 4 uprising in Kumasi, again alleged that former President Kufuor stole money during his eight-year tenure in office. He even went further to state that former President Kufuor had become powerful to the extent that he could make kings and decide the outcome of elections in the country because the money he stole was still with him. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John, said ex-President Rawlings constant allegations that his predecessor stole the countrys money during his stewardship was merely borne out of sheer jealousy. He contended that the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was green-eyed of ex-President Kufuor because of the latters excellent performance in office. Because he could not do what former President Kufuor was able to do in his eight-year reign of the country, he has grown to be jealous, Sir John told Daily Guide in an interview. He claimed that ex-President Rawlings jealousy had grown out of proportion following the respect shown ex-President Kufuor by the international community. When he hears that former President Kufuor has been invited to speak at international forums and also been asked to lead sensitive international assignments, then his jealousness gets out of hand, the NPP General Scribe stated. Sir John indicated that he did not begrudge former President Rawlings for charting that course because it was a disgrace that in spite of his long years at the helm of affairs, he did not enjoy an iota of respect from the international community. Because he is not useful to the international community because of his bad record in office, he wants to always smear former President Kufuor so that they could be on the same scale, he noted. The NPPs administrative head observed that it was high time former President Rawlings realized that his unfounded allegations against ex-President Kufuor had lost value and were irrelevant. If I were him, I would have stopped behaving this way because in spite of his misguided allegations, the stature of former President Kufuor continues to soar in the international community, Sir John emphasized. He said if indeed ex-President Kufuor and his government officials looted the nations coffers as former President Rawlings continued to propagate, the NDC government would have succeeded in jailing the offenders. According to him, because members of ex-President Rawlings regime were corrupt, the law found some of them guilty and made them face the wrath of the law. In their haste to tell Ghanaians that our members were corrupt, the NDC government, upon assumption, dragged many of our men to court but could not succeed because they are clean, Sir John pointed out. He charged ex-President Rawlings to either prove his allegations or forever hold his peace and concentrate on his fight to take back the NDC. On the allegation that some members of President Mills government were looting money, the NPP general secretary noted that he had no reason to doubt the former President because he came from the government and therefore knew what was going on.
