NPP Woman Killed

The Adentan Police is investigating circumstances in which a former Womens Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was killed last Tuesday night at Hesse, a village near Abokobi in Accra. Patience Naa Lamle Obodai, who recently stepped down as the Dadekotopon Constituency Womens Organizer of the party, was reportedly ran over by a taxi cab while she was enjoying fresh air under a tree around 8:30 pm Tuesday. She died on the spot and her mortal remains have since been deposited at the mortuary of the 37 Military Hospital. Her mother, Christiana Bryant, yesterday told DAILY GUIDE that the family was yet to hear from the police as regards the outcome of their investigations and whether any foul play had been detected. Speaking with tear-filled eyes and a quaky voice, the mother of the deceased said she was woken up from sleep in the early hours of Wednesday and told that something terrible had happened to her daughter. Oh it was a little after midnight but before 1.00am when someone knocked on my door. I asked who it was and the person said it was Obodai, my son-in-law. He said we should go to the 37 Military Hospital because my daughter had been knocked down by a taxi but he had forced the same taxi to send her to the hospital. On arrival at the scene, my blood pressure went up and I started to feel very weak. You know, because of my BP, I did not go near her. I was later told that my daughter had been sent to the emergency ward and that we should come back the next day but I am not a small girlI have been to the hospital several times and from the direction my daughter was sent, I knew she had been sent to the mortuary, Christiana Bryant narrated amidst sobs. She continued by saying that they were told the next morning that Patience Obodai had died and that the body was at the morgue. When DAILY GUIDE got to her family house at Osu, a few relatives dressed in mourning attire had gathered and they appeared traumatized by the report. They expressed surprise that the police, after four days, had still not communicated anything concerning investigations into the incident, to the family. Prince Obodai, son of the deceased, was absolutely speechless. He reluctantly directed all questions posed by the media to the family and explained that he was lost for words. Patience Naa Lamle Obodai, 45, is survived by three daughters and a son. The widower, Joseph Obodai, is a retired Warrant Officer of the Ghana Armed Forces.
