Rawlings' Ya Na Evidence Given To Government � Kofi Adams

After years of speculation and miles of political capital milked by both major political parties in Ghana�s political divide, Mr. Kofi Adams, Spokesperson of the Founder of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President Jerry John Rawlings, has told Citi News the much awaited Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani murder tape(s), touted by President Rawlings as definitive proof of the opposition New Patriotic Party�s complicity in the murder of the late Dagbon King, have been handed over to the Attorney General�s Department. One of the sons of the late Dagbon King domiciled abroad, according to Mr Adams, returned home and made available copies of the potentially explosive audiovisual evidence to Mr. Victor Smith, one-time Spokesperson for Mr. Rawlings and now Ghana�s Ambassador to the Czech Republic. He however did not state exactly when the tapes were received and made available to the A-G�s office. Mr. Adams said the tapes were subsequently handed over to the Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Ebo Barton Odro. Kofi Adams, who doubles as the ruling party�s Deputy General Secretary, said it was expected that Government was going to swiftly use the tape as a yardstick to appeal against the Court ruling that freed the latest of suspects arrested and hauled before court, fifteen Dagbon men of Abudu extraction, who were standing trial for the death of the Ya-Naa. He bemoaned the fact that Government has not acted on the tape, and challenged President Mills and the Mills-Mahama administration �to stop pretending and go ahead to appeal against the Court ruling.� He said any further delay in re-visiting the Ya-Naa murder case and apprehending the real culprits will deny the people of Dagbon their right to justice. This, he said, would jeopardize the NDC�s image in Dagbon, seen as one of the party�s dependable �world banks�. The late Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani lost his life in March 2002. Mr. Adams made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with Citi News on Friday June 10 in Tamale, after Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings met with the Northern Region executives of the NDC ahead of the party�s Presidential primaries slated for June 8-10, 2011 in Sunyani. The meeting formed part of the Former First Lady�s three day campaign tour of the northern region. Reliable sources at the meeting said she explained why there was the need to change the sitting President as the NDC�s flagbearer for elections 2012. The former first lady later met with members of the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR) group in Tamale and other youth groupings of the NDC in the metropolis. Mrs. Konadu Agyemang Rawlings is on the campaign trail with two of her daughters and other bigwigs of the FONKAR group.
