NDC Primaries: Where Do You Stand To Accuse Electoral Commission? - Kwamena Blasts NDC Over Their 'Error-infested' Register

Former Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan has ridiculed the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) over what has been exposed as discrepancies and errors in the party's photo album or register for their primaries scheduled on Saturday, May 13.

The NDC will be holding their internal elections to elect their flagbearer to lead them into the 2024 elections.

Three candidates in the persons of former President John Dramani Mahama, former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour and former KMA Mayor, Kojo Bonsu are vying for the flagbearer slot of the party.

However, Dr. Duffuor has petitioned the court to place an injunction on the primaries over accusations that the register is incomplete and inaccurate.

Kwabena Duffuor's Petition

The campaign team of the former Minister argued that going into an election with such a register undermines the credibility and integrity of the election and capable of causing irreparable damage to their flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, therefore demanding the following:

1. Postponement of the May 13th Presidential Primaries.

2. Stakeholders meeting to establish an agreeable roadmap that will guarantee the integrity of the voters register.

3. Clean the register within an agreeable time frame to ensure free and fair election.

4. To save the image of the NDC so that the party can have a credible voice so that the party can speak on national election matters when the need arises.

Kwamena Duncan's Take

Reacting to the allegations, Kwamena Duncan mocked the party as he wondered how they could accuse the Electoral Commission of having irregularities in the voters' register, hence informing their decision to abstain from IPAC meetings and sending the EC to the Supreme Court during their 2020 election petition hearing whereas their own photo album is replete with errors.

Rebuking the party, he revealed that the NDC register contains 75,000 names that are not supposed to be in and also 3,000 names that have been disenfranchised.

He also mentioned the register contains names that have been mixed up and gave an instance where a name like Isaac Nyamekye was registered to be a female and a polling station Treasurer whose picture in the register is a male figure is called Akosua Agyapong in the register.

"So, this is the register they are going to use this Saturday? . . . As many as 75,000 people, they are not supposed to be part of the list, yet they find themselves there. Those who are eligible and should vote too, over 3,000, you have disenfranchise them," Kwamena Duncan slammed the NDC while speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' morning show.

"Where is your base? Where is your pillar to stand on to accuse the Electoral Commission?", he questioned.
