NPP Flagbearership: Nov. 4 Not Going To Be So Simple To Win - Asah Asante To Aspirants

Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asah Asante has contrasted assertions that the outcome of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Special Delegates Congress will reflect the party's main persidential election on November 4.

Prior to the Special Delegates Congress, a member of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign team, Dennis Miracles insisted that "whoever wins Saturday's election will win the November 4 elections," adding "that is a matter of fact!"

Saturday's election was conducted to prune the NPP presidential aspirants to five to compete in the main elections.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia polled an emphatic 629 votes representing 68.15% to come first followed by the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong who polled 132 votes representing 14.3% and former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen jumped to third with 95 votes (10.29%).

Dr Afriyie Akoto placed fourth with 36, a percentage of 3.9.

Former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai Nimoh both garnered 9 votes and will go for a run-off on Saturday, September 2, to decide the fifth candidate; according to the NPP Election Committee.

If Dennis Miracles' claim is to be taken, the November 4th election will be a cool chop for Dr. Bawumia, but Dr. Asah Asante believes this is not a statement of fact.

To him, the November 4 election is "not simple. You need hard work and strategy because many people are adding up and their vision might not be the same as those who first voted. Anything can happen".

He, therefore, advised the candidates not to be complacent as more work is demanded of them as they gear up for the main election.
