Akosombo Dam Spillage: 'This Is Not the Time for Loose Talks' - Opanyin Agyekum

Head of Linguistics at the University of Ghana, Professor Kofi Agyekum has kicked against politicization of the Akosombo dam spillage that has displaced thousands of residents in the Volta Region.

Over 30,000 people have been affected by the spillage and relocated to shelters with government, NADMO and various individuals providing them with relief items and hoping to restore them to normal life.

However, some politicians, both in government and opposition, are scoring political points with the unfortunate situation.

There are also some people who blame the victims as, to them, the victims are reaping the result of their disobedience since they were asked to vacate the areas but refused.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme Tuesday morning, Professor Kofi Agyekum, affectionately called 'Opanyin Agyekum', admonished the leaders and political figures in the country to measure their utterances when commenting on the incident.

He advised they choose their words carefully, ensuring what they say is relieving to the victims.

He stated emphatically that "this is not the time for loose talks" and called on them to "carry your words".
