NPP Is Tolerant of Religious Diversity - Dr. Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the new flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party, has declared religious tolerance as one of the pillars of the party and pledges to commit to this virtue.

In his victory speech delivered at the Accra Sports Stadium, Dr. Bawumia, who defeated his contenders with overwhelming margin of votes, stated emphatically that the New Patriotic Party is "tolerant of Ghana's religious diversity" and that "we elect those deserving of leadership, those who are capable of governing, and those with proven traits of integrity, incorruptibility, and hard work".

Delegates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday, November 4, proved that they are content with the signal and believed 'breaking the 8' is possible with the Vice President, hence electing him as their flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

Over 200,000 delegates who participated in the election dubbed a 'showdown' between Dr Bawumia and Member of Parliament for Assin Central constituency, Kennedy Agyapong, in 277 constituencies across the country gave Dr. Bawumia an emphatic and resounding triumph.

At the end of the contest, the Electoral Commission declared Dr Bawumia as the winner after he secured 118, 210 out of the total of 193,346 votes cast; representing an impressive 61.47% while his competitors shared the rest of the votes with his closest rival, Ken Ohene Agyapong securing 71,996 votes.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh garnered 1,459 and 781 votes respectively.

Dr. Bawumia assured the nation his election will usher in a new era of inclusive government saying, "from virtually every constituency in the country, the message has been the same: In the NPP we do not care about where you hail from. We are tolerant..."
