In a surprising turn of events, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, one of the presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has gracefully accepted the results of the party’s presidential primary.

Agyapong, who previously promised Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia a “showdown,” congratulated the party’s elections committee for organizing a free and fair election.

Shortly after the announcement of the results, Agyapong publicly conceded defeat and congratulated Vice President Bawumia, who emerged the winner in the contest.
He pledged his full support to Bawumia in the upcoming 2024 general elections, stating that he believes they can defeat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and “break the 8.”

Expressing his satisfaction with the election process, Agyapong stated, “This is the only thing I’ve been preaching, and I must admit this election is fair and my grassroots have spoken; therefore, I accept the results in good faith.”
He urged party members to unite and put their differences aside for the greater good of the party.

Looking ahead to the future, Agyapong emphasized that the NPP will come together to give the NDC a “showdown” in the 2024 elections.
He commended all his team members, including his wife, for their unwavering support throughout his campaign.

According to the official results, Agyapong received 71,936 votes, representing 37.38 percent, while Bawumia secured 118,210 votes, equivalent to 61.43 percent of the 192,446 valid votes cast.

The other candidates, former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former MP for Asante Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh, obtained 1,459 and 781 votes, respectively, representing 0.76 percent and 0.41 percent of the total votes.
