STC To Move From 'Diesel' Buses To Electric Buses - Nana Akomea Reveals

Nana Akomea, the Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC), has revealed that from next year, customers of the company will be commuting across the nation in electric buses.

Nana Akomea lauded the decision by government to waive import duties on electric vehicles and assembly of the vehicles in Ghana, according to the 2024 budget statement presented by Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta on Wednesday, November 15.

The Minister noted these tax reliefs as part of government's fiscal measures for next year.

While commending the government for this notable decision, the STC boss disclosed on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show that the transport company has already entered into an agreement with an electric car producer called Solar Taxi.

"We have signed an MOU for the supply for electric vehicles with a company called Solar Taxi. If everything goes on well, by next year Easter between March and April, we will get electric buses", he intimated.

He believed the electric vehicles will save cost, therefore backing the government in boosting investor confidence in this sector.

He anticipates Ghana to make good use of electric vehicles in the next ten years.
