The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Henry Nana Boakye has slammed former President John Dramani Mahama over his 24-hour economy policy.

The former President says, if elected President, he will ensure Ghana's economy run a 24-hour service.

"A new NDC administration will work urgently to equip our youth with the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills needed for a sustainable future. We will introduce a 24-hour economy with incentives and tax breaks for manufacturers who will run extra shifts to create more room for employment.

"We will work to ease the burden of taxes imposed by this NPP administration on Ghanaian businesses and investors, which has robbed Ghana of its envious position as one of Africa's leading destinations for investment", he promised.

Discussing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's delivery of his vision for Ghana at an event at UPSA on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly called "Nana B", described Mahama's 24-hour economy as a "confused policy".

He explained that for an economy to run 24 hours, it must be digitized and this dovetails into the digitalization agenda by Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

"It's a confused policy...24-hour economy is a by-product of an economy that we want to move to digitalization", he commented on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".

He stressed "even in China, after 6 pm, shops are closed" and questioned Mr. Mahama; "Are you better than US? Are you far-advanced than China?"

To Nana B, the 24-hour economy is not feasible.

"When you ask them what are details, they can't say anything...It cannot work!", he exclaimed.

He also compared track records of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration and the previous Mahama government, emphasizing that irrespective of the global challenges affecting Ghana's economy, they have outperformed the previous Mahama government.

"In spite of all the challenges, we have done far better in the economy more than the NDC and the data is there...When you take the average growth for even Agric from 2017 till date, it's 5.8; under NDC, it was 3.9. We've done better than them. Despite the global problems that affected us, we still did better than them.

"When you look at industry growth and find out that, under NDC from 2013 to 2016, it was 3.3 percent and from 2017 till date, it's 10.8 percent. We did far better than them. When you take the service sector, from 2013 to 2016, it was 5.2 but check ours from 2017 till now, it is about 5.1. When you look at unemployment rate, we've done better than them; from 2014 to 2016, it was 12.92. From 2017 till date, it is 9.00", he established.
