What Nana Akomea Said About Bawumia’s ’Tap And Go’ Initiative

The Chief Executive Officer of the InterCity State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has commended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his “tap and go” initiative.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia launched this digital initiative on Monday, February 19, at the Head Office of Metro Mass Limited. It is aimed at facilitating intra- and inter-city transport services.

The Tap and Go transport service is a digital platform for multiple public transport services, including a digital card preloaded with cash that can be used to pay transport fares by tapping the card on a fixed machine on a bus or rail.

It also has a virtual card option on mobile phones, which can be selected through the Tap and Go app for those who don’t wish to use a physical card.

Nana Akomea was super-excited for this massive boost in the services that the public transport buses provide to society.

To him, this system, which is beginning with the Metro Mass buses, will eliminate the rampant conflicts over money in buses, ensure a cashless system, and provide ease in accessing transport services in Ghana.

"With the combination of electric buses or battery buses and this electronic payment, Tap and Go, there will be advancement in public transport services,"  he extolled the programme during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show on Tuesday, February 20.

Nana Akomea appealed to all and sundry, especially those on the political divide, to embrace this initiative, stressing it is a transformative drive in the transport sector.

"It has nothing to do with elections. It has everything to do with progress,"  he admonished those who want to politicize the initiative.
