Information Minister-designate On Why Ken Ofori-Atta Was Given New Appointment

Fatimatu Abubakar, Information Minister-designate, has risen to the defence of the appointment of Former Finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta as the Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance and Sector Investments.

According to the minister, the appointment of Ken Ofori-Atta is based on his unquestionable capacity to provide valuable advice within the financial sector.

".....His capacity to guide or to advice in the financial sector is not lost just because he is no longer Finance Minister. If his skills are required elsewhere and the president feels he can help us with negotiations or can advise, I don’t think there should be a big problem about that,” she said in an Interview on TV3’s New Day monitored by Peacefmonline.com, on Monday, February 26, 2024.

Hon Fatimatu believed the former Finance Minister has great in-depth knowledge within the financial market; locally and internationally.

In a letter dated February 15, the President, through the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, congratulated Ken Ofori-Atta on his reappointment as the Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance and Private Sector Investments. This appointment came a day after a massive ministerial reshuffle which saw the finance minister replaced by Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam.

“I am pleased to inform you that the President of the Republic has appointed you as the Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance and Private Sector Investments.

“I take this opportunity to congratulate you formally on your reassignment and wish you the very best in this new office,” she stated.

News of Ken Ofori-Atta's controversial new appointment was met with a public backlash with scores of Ghanaians holding the view that he does not deserve to be reappointed; much more to a higher position.

They argue that given the legacy he leaves behind, he has failed to live up to expectation.
