Akufo-Addo To Launch Ghana Smart Schools Project

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will on Monday March 25, 2024 launch his "One Student, One Laptop" initiative for Senior High School Students.

The initiative, aimed towards advancing computer literacy and technological know how of young Ghanaian students, will see government provide pre-programmed laptop to each SHS student across the country.

A statement by the Ministry of Education said the initiative it "aligns with government's efforts to enhance e-learning and digitalization" as well as "supports government's goal of leveraging technological advancements to prepare Ghanaian students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution", also known as the digital age.

The initiative is to bolster Senior High School education by providing teaching and learning management system, digital learning content and education devices to all Senior High and TVET Schools nationwide.

Last year, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced government's decision to provide laptops to each SHS student and the realization of this dream demonstrates the government's commitment to enhancing secondary education through initiatives like this laptop project and the notable free SHS programme.

The laptops are preloaded with programmes including text books and can be accessed anywhere in the country, even off-line (without internet).

With the laptops, students do not have to continue with the age-long practice of carrying text books.

Distribution of the laptops to the students will commence on same day, March 25, after the launch.
