Lucky Mensahs Bread Buttered?

HIGHLIFE MUSICIAN Alex Mensah, known in showbiz circles as Lucky Mensah, who until recently was alleged to be a member of Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR) is alleged to have defected to the rival group Get Atta Mills Endorsed (GAME). Also, with the release of his latest song Atta beye ama mo (Atta will do it for you); a lot of Ghanaians appear to be confused especially given how until recently he lambasted government via his hit song Nkratuo. I cannot understand how someone who until recently cast political innuendoes on the incumbent with Nkratuo can so soon endorse the candidature of President Mills with his new song Atta beye ama mo. I suspect he has been given a lot of money, a businessman at Odawna, Kwame Nkrumah Circle who pleaded anonymity, told this paper during an interview. The lyrics of the latest song encourage Ghanaians to believe in President Mills ability to deliver on the NDCs Better Ghana Agenda as promised. Lucky explains via his new song that the President is adequately delivering on his promises and that by the end of his first term, Ghanaians will attest to the level of improvement in their standard of living. The development has come as a shock to many and Ghanaians are wondering, why the sudden u-turn? Supporters of the NPP are particularly shocked since it was the same musician who had criticized the present administration for creating economic hardships for the people. Right after Nkratuo hit the airwaves, Lucky Mensah admitted that campaigning for the then candidate Mills and the NDC in 2008 had had a negative impact on his career. These included the withdrawal of his CDs from the public domain starting from the Kumasi Market to Kejetia through to Kantamanto in Accra. His manager Bediako who made this known to Accra based newspaper Today, noted that at a point, his client became completely poor even though he still nursed the hope that the party would assist him financially because of his contribution to the NDCs return to power. According to Mr Bediako, Lucky Mensah spent over five months visiting the Castle with the belief that President Mills would support him. But on the many occasions he visited the seat of government, he was denied access to the President by certain people he described as greedy cocoons. According to him, on one occasion, Vice President John Dramani Mahama allegedly ordered Baffoe Bonney to give Lucky Mensah money to enable him purchase a plane ticket to leave the shores of Ghana but Mr Bonney and one Mawusi deliberately refused to give him the money. He went on to add that there was an instance when Lucky had to walk from the castle to Tema Station to board a trotro back to his residence at Pokuase Estates. Lucky spent months at the Castle in a bid to tell the President only to be given a big jolt of his life by these Castle operatives who frustrated him every time. Is this how a person who sacrificed his life and music career for the sake of the NDC is treated? Bediako angrily questioned. Lucky Mensah it would be recalled came out openly to tell Ghanaians that the frustrations he endured at the Castle were under the watchful eyes of President Mills. It is alleged that but for the timely intervention of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, who helped him travel abroad to seek greener pastures, the seasoned highlife musicians life would have been nothing to write home about by now. Mrs. Rawlings allegedly gave Lucky Mensah US$1,900 for the purchase of his plane ticket to enable him travel to the US since the hierarchy of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) virtually neglected him under the leadership of President Mills. With his latest song it seems plausible to ask this: has prodigal son Luckys bread finally been buttered?
