Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's message of being a driver's mate for 7 years, therefore pleading to be handed the steering wheel has resonated with Ghanaians across the country.

During his campaign tour of the Oti Region yesterday, ecstatic residents of the Regional capital, Dambai, welcomed and greeted Dr. Bawumia publicly showing their two hands symbolically controlling the steering wheel of a car.

Dr. Bawumia's engagements in the Oti Region took him to meet the Clergy, Imams, Zongo Chiefs, the Oti Regional House of Chiefs and the youth in the community.

He also embarked on a house-to-house and street-to-street campaign.

The estastic residents cheered him on amidst chants of “yɛde steer no ama wo” meaning “we have given you the steer”, also to wit they solidly support him and will elect for Dr. Bawumia as Ghana’s next President.

Dr. Bawumia, in response, acknowledged their applause and replicate the symbol with his two hands depicting a driver driving a car.

In one instance, one of the ecstatic young ones displaying the “give me the steer sign”handed over a round cardboard paper to Dr. Bawumia to depicting a steering wheel.

Dr. Bawumia received the cardboard and started to drive it much to the excitement of the crowd.

Interestingly, as the bus carrying Dr. Bawumia moved around the Dambai township, many of the residents came out doing the “steer controlling” sign amid cheers and waving at him.
