A representative of the Commandant at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping and Training Centre (KAIPTC), Colonel (Col) Emmanuel Gyadu has emphasized that peace is a critical prerequisite for national, regional, and global development.

He stated that without peace, societies fall into chaos and disorder, causing them to stagnate and suffer.

Delivering a welcome address on behalf of the Commandant during a two-week Political Advisors Course for Peace Support Operations in Africa, developed by the Centre in collaboration with the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defense, Col. Emmanuel Gyadu highlighted the increasing international efforts to end wars, stabilize fragile states, and rebuild war-torn societies, particularly in the West African sub-region and the African continent as a whole.

He noted that an unprecedented number of peace operations and political missions have been deployed to address crises, manage violent conflicts, and maintain or restore peace adding that currently, five out of the eleven ongoing peacekeeping missions under the UN are in Africa, underscoring the need for training political advisors to support these peace operations.

Col. Gyadu emphasized the critical role of political advisors in missions, stating that they provide mission leadership with vital analyses of political developments, trends, and emerging issues in their areas of operation. These advisors also make recommendations on policies, strategies, and other measures to address these issues effectively.

In an interview with Peace News, a representative from the Austrian Ministry of Defense expressed Austria's commitment to fostering better peace and security in Africa. 

He pointed out that decisions made on the African continent have significant impacts on Europe, reinforcing the importance of seeking prosperity for both continents.
