Atik Mohammed has criticised the founder and leader of the Movement for Change (M4C), John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen for trying to recuse himself from the failure of the NPP government to stabilize the economy when he was the Trade Minister.

Atik Mohammed’s comment comes on the wheels of a recent lecture given by the Independent candidate for the Movement for Change (M4C), Alan Kyerematen where he had said that the two major political parties, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) have exhausted their competencies and capabilities and should not be returned to power.  

According to Alan Kyerematen, both parties have had the opportunity to govern the country for the last thirty-two (32) years and have yet to demonstrate, either through words or actions, what sustainable plans they have for Ghana in the near future.   

During the unveiling of the Great Transformation Plan (GTP), Alan Kyerematen said, "the GTP is a blueprint to Ghana’s economic transformation and outlines robust policy prescriptions and practical steps towards building an enterprise economy in the country."

He further stated that among other things, the GTP is to build a prosperous, united and peaceful Ghana that provides equal opportunities for all, particularly young people, women and other vulnerable groups to realise their full potential and improve their livelihoods and general wellbeing, as demanded by the 1992 constitution.

However, Atik Mohammed argued that, if Alan Kyerematen had all the ideas and plans he believes he has, what then stopped him from sharing it with President Akufo-Addo when he was serving as the Trades and Industry Minister for seven years.

Speaking on Tuesday, June 25th's edition of Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' Morning Show, Atik Mohammed said, “Afrafranto is trying to poach smaller political parties to join the movement but I think there is a great deal of inertia that ought to be broken. The campaign is not moving as it is anticipated. If he claims to have a big plan for Ghana, where was the plan when he was the Trades and Industry Minister?” 

“He can give the excuse that the President wasn’t listening but I’m yet to be told that he shared that big plan with President Akufo-Addo but the President did not listen to him. If you had a big plan, did you have to wait till you become the leader for the Movement for Change before you tell us you have a big plan,” he argued.

Atik Mohammed further stated that, there is no way Alan Kyerematen can completely divorce himself from the crisis of the NPP government.

“Try hard as he may, he talks as though he was never a part of the government, meanwhile you were the Trades and Industry Minister for seven years. He can’t completely say that he was unaware of the crisis the government has plunged the country into. He was already at the centre of it."
