Nana Addo Is A Copy-Cat - Alhaji Bature

The Managing Editor of the Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature, has taken a swipe at the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, describing him as a copycat for embarking on a Listening Campaign. According to Bature, the concept has been borrowed from President Mills' 'door-to-door' campaign strategy ahead of the 2008 general elections. Bature explained that the door-to-door campaign by the National Democratic Congress appears to have caught the eye of the NPP flagbearer who has decided to adopt the same strategy. The campaign manager of Nana Akufo-Addo for election 2012, Boakye Agyarko in a publication in The Chronicle newspaper of June 23, 2011 revealed that the NPP flagbearer would embark on a door-to-door campaign in all the 230 constituencies beginning July to garner massive support for the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections. Mr. Agyarko in the Chronicle report said the tour would offer Nana Akufo-Addo an opportunity to interact with Ghanaians and also give him the chance to embark on a grassroots campaign. However, Alhaji Bature who was speaking on Asempa FMs Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, believes that the move by Nana Akufo-Addo shows how desperate he is for power. He said Nana Addo decided to copy the door-to-door strategy mainly because he has come to the realisation that it is the only way to win massive support from the grassroots to enable him become President. He added that the NPP flagbearer also wants to use the door-to-door campaign to prove to his teeming supporters and Ghanaians that he is not arrogant as he is held by his political opponents. The NDC sympathizer recounted how the NPP described the I Care for You Campaign (part of the door-to-door campaign by then candidate Mills) as laughable and branded him (Mills) as a desperate politician. He questioned the sudden change of NPP's campaign strategy which he said in 2008, was more of a hi-tech campaign, and noted that the door-to-door campaign by the NPP has revealed their double standards and lack of respect for Ghanaians.
