Stubborn Telecom Operators To Be Sanctioned

The National Communication Authority (NCA) has stated that it would issue sanctions to mobile telecommunication operators who are flouting the directive related to the ongoing SIM Card registration exercise. Citi News has gathered that some telecom companies have resorted to registering their subscribers without demanding for any form of national identification which is in contravention to the NCA laws. According to the NCA, all subscribers must register in person using valid national identification documents. These documents include voter ID Card, NHIS ID card, passport and drivers license. But with less than nine days to end the registration exercise, it appears the telecom companies are under pressure to get all their subscribers registered before the deadline elapses on June 30. The Deputy Director in charge of Corporate and Consumer Affairs at NCA, Mawuko Zormelo in an interview with Citi News said the NCA would not tolerate the current developments and would take steps to sanction any telecoms company caught registering subscribers using illegal means. They are doing the wrong thing, those operators and their agents are doing the wrong thing and they are entreated to go by the directive that has been given the National Communication Authority. Those who do not go by the directive at the end of the exercise would be found outand they know that there are sanctions that go with flouting the directives. I guess we should all be worried because it brings to the fore the unwillingness of persons who have been given responsibilities, who have been given licenses to operate to flout the laws of the nation. This should be of concern to all.
