GHACEM Pays GH1.1m To Government

GHACEM Limited last Thursday presented a cheque for GH1,147,600 as final dividend for the year 2010 to the Government of Ghana. This dividend, which represents governments five percent shares in the company, was declared at the companys Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on 9th June 2011. The Managing Director of GHACEM, Morten Gade, who presented the cheque, said the company was committed to ensuring that government, as a shareholder of the company, gets its dividend annually. He stated that apart from paying taxes and dividend the company, as part of its corporate social responsibility, has established a cement foundation since 2002 which donates cement to deprived communities in the country annually and hoped this initiative set up by the company would support government in its effort to develop the nation. Dr. Kwabena Duffour, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, who received the cheque on behalf of the government, praised GHACEM for the prompt payment of the dividend and urged other companies to emulate the gesture to develop the country. GHACEM, he said, is a loyal taxpayer and law abiding, urging the company not to hesitate to approach the government if it faced any hindrances in its operations. Mr. Gade was accompanied by Dr. George Dowson-Ahmoah, Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director at GHACEM to make the presentation.
