GCB Workers To Proceed On Strike

Workers of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) plan to wear red arm-bands from Monday in protest against reports that about a thousand of its workers are to be laid off. The decision was taken today after the local workers union of the bank in Tema and Accra met to deliberate on ways of impressing upon management rescind its decision. The workers had earlier called for the dissolution of the board and management by petitioning the Finance ministry to intervene in their misunderstanding which has been ongoing for some months now. But the intended move to lay off 1,000 workers could spark agitation and strike actions among workers. According to some of the workers who spoke to Citi Business News on condition of anonymity, the Union will begin talks with management soon, to find an amicable way of settling the matter.
