Karbo Weeps For Jailed NPP Men

The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Abayifa Karbo, has wept for five of the partys members who have been in detention for over two-and-half years at the Tamale Central Prison in the Northern Region. He broke down in tears when he saw the state of the five during a visit to the Tamale central prison, insisting that their long stay in prison was politically motivated. The youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has registered its readiness to go all out to ensure the release of five of its members who have been in detention for over two-and-half years now. It indicated that it would no longer condone the continued incarceration of the five heroes of the party, threatening to go on rampage if they were not released before Ramadan ended. Weeping, Karbo assured them of the partys support in getting them out of jail with all the necessary legal instruments, indicating that he was with them in prayers. The NPP shares the pain you are going through and will do its best to have you leave the confines of this building very soon, he assured them. Mr. Karbo said the youth of the party in the region were gradually losing their patience over the long detention of the five gallant members held without charge for almost three years. Yahuza Yakubu, Abibu Dagbana, Majeed Alhassan, Alhassan Sayibu and Imoro Gundaana, all NPP youth activists in Tamale, have been languishing in the Tamale prison after their arrest in February 2009, following reprisal attacks between supporters of the opposition NPP and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tamale. The partys youth leader, who presented them a token on behalf of the youth wing, told journalists the fundamental human rights of the five had been infringed upon, reasons for which he declared a positive action. He disclosed that youth groups in solidarity with their imprisoned colleagues were going to mass up one of these days and revolt against the political agony imposed on them by the current government. While appealing to the conscience of President Mills to, by executive instrument, order the release of the five, he urged the youth to remain calm and wait for the next line of action from his outfit. It would be recalled that supporters of the NDC and NPP clashed on February 17, 2009, leading to the death of one Rashid Alhassan, an NDC activist. Twenty-seven houses were also razed down.
