Bright Akwetey To Contest CPP Flagbearership Slot?

An Accra-based legal practitioner and a leading member of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) Mr. Bright Akwetey has hinted of his intention to contest for the flagbearership slot of the party for elections 2012. Mr. Bright Akwetey speaking on the Citi Eyewitness News expressed his excitement at the election of the new CPP executives under the leadership of Samia Yaba Nkrumah, the partys only Member of Parliament for the Jomoro constituency. The former Board Secretary of Accra Hearts of Oak was however evasive to categorically state whether he would contest for the Presidential slot saying he would announce his decision at the appropriate time. Mr. Akwetey, speaking to host of Eye Witness News on Citi FM, Shamima Muslim, explained that CPPs continuous stay in the political backwoods was due to a loss of focus, direction and divisive ideas in the leadership front, but is positive that the new leadership would be able to turn things around. He added that any flagbearer elected to lead the party for next years election must be able to re-package the CPP into a viable national political institution to fight for elections 2012 and take over the reins of government in the country. He however called on CPP members to rally their support behind Samia Nkrumah so the CPP can elect a credible and a visionary leader who can wrestle power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). Mr. Akwetey was heard unofficially saying that he is capable of marshalling a formidable force in the country with the ability to shoulder equally with the flag bearers of the National Democratic Congress, Professor John Evans Atta Mills and New Patriotic Partys Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo," he stated.
