MTN Ghana, as part of its customer service week celebration, has donated items worth GH�3000 to the New Horizon Special School in Accra. The donation is the last activity of the customer service week celebration by the customer care unit of the company, and forms part of its corporate social responsibility. The items included bags of rice, cooking oil, books, pens, pencils, soft drinks, soaps, toilet rolls, milk, and detergents. Jemima Kotei Walsh, Customer Relations Executive of MTN, said the company has been celebrating the customer service week for the past three years and each year a school or institution with special needs is catered for. �For three years now, MTN has been celebrating its customer service week to honour its customers. As part of the celebrations, we donate to schools or institutions with special needs. �New Horizon Special School is this year�s beneficiary; an orphanage in Kasoa was our first beneficiary in 2009 and the autism centre was last year�s recipient,� she said. Receiving the items on behalf of the school, the Director, Salome Francois, expressed her gratitude to MTN and hoped this would not be the last from the mobile communication giant. �I would like to say a big thank you to MTN on behalf of the board, parents, staff and students of the institution for this benevolent gesture, and we believe the items will go a long way to alleviate the plight of the students. She noted that disability in learning does not mean a person is useless, so society should not stigmatise persons with disabilities because they are humans. The New Horizon Special School was started 29 years ago by Mrs. Salome Francois with her daughter and two others as its first students. When the numbers grew, the Lands Commission allocated land for the institution and today it has about 200 students. Since most of the students are not accepted in society, they live all their lives in the institution. The institution therefore has workshops that train students in the making of chairs, baskets, hats and paintings which are sold to sustain the school.
