Abedi Pele Gets Global Award

Ghana legend Abedi Pele received a prestigious Golden Foot award at a ceremony in Monte Carlo on Monday night. The three-time Africa Player of Year clinched one of the three awards for legends in this year�s ceremony to be held in France. The former Black Stars captain will pick the legends category award along with Rabah Madjer and Ruud Gullit. Abedi becomes the first Ghanaian to be honoured at the Champions Promenade in Monte Carlo on 10 October.The former Ghana star was one of the best during the first part of the 90s, when he also won the 1993 Champions League with Olympique de Marseille against Fabio Capello�s AC Milan. He won the African Golden Ball between 1991 and 1993 and in 1982 he won the African Cup for Ghana.Abedi Pele is mentioned by IFFHS as one of the three best African players over last century.The Golden Foot is awarded annually by Prince Albert II of Monaco to best contemporary football players and past players. Manchester United�s Ryan Giggs won this year�s award.The Welshman received the highest number of votes among the ten nominees chosen by the International jury.In order, he beat Javier Zanetti, Samuel Eto�o and Xavi Hernandez. Giggs wins the golden mould with diamonds stars after being candidate for years and thanks to an extraordinary career, now celebrated by the Principality of Monaco. After receiving the award by the hands of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, Giggs has left his footprints on the Champions Promenade, the Walk of Fame of International football in the Principality seafront. The winner is chosen from a list of ten nominees by a jury and in an online vote on the award�s website.
