Ga Chieftaincy Rumpus: NDC Govt Not kingmakers Prez Mills

President John Evans Atta-Mills has washed his hands off the protracted Ga chieftaincy rumpus and insisted fingers must not be pointed at his ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the current state of the Ga chiefs. According to President Atta-Mills, his administration has no interest in bringing division amongst Ga chiefs. The protracted hue and cry in the Ga State was resurrected a few months ago, during the installation of a new Ga Mantse (chief), Nii Adama Latse II, although Nii Tackie Tawiah III was still on the stool. Pundits on chieftaincy issues have rumoured that Nii Tawiah III came to power with the help of the then New Patriotic Party administration whilst others are pointing fingers at the ruling NDC government of being behind the installation of Nii Latse II. However, speaking at a durbar of chiefs and people in Dodowa on Tuesday, President Atta-Mills stated that his government does not make kings and is ready to work in unison with any local chief enstooled by the Ga people. Very often I hear people say that government has done this, government has done that, let me say without any equivocation that government is not interested in any chieftaincy affairs, the president stressed. Government does not make kings and government does not depose kings. Government would want to cooperate with our revered chiefs so that together we can help our people satisfy their needs.
