2012 Afcon Must Be Ghanas Abedi

Football legend, Abedi Pele, has said winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012 must be Ghanas top most priority. The Black Stars have not won the Nations Cup in three decades and pundits believe the trophy drought must ended at the next continental showpiece in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in three months time. Ghana will compete with 15 other countries without heavy weights like west African arch-rivals Nigeria, defending champions Egypt and Cameroon. Abedi, who was part of the team that won Ghanas last Nations Cup in 1982, believes it will not be out of place to demand the prestigious continental flagship from the senior national side in the upcoming event. The difficult part is when you expect too much and when you start putting pressure on your players that the big guns are not there so they should win, that can also bring a difficult situation, Pele said. So I believe that we should just leave it like it is in the past and then we should expect anything but inwardly we know that we have a good team to deliver. I think its a huge opportunity for us to win, the maestro noted.
