Majid Michel & Omotola Win At Screen Nations Awards In London

Majid Michel and Omotola Jalade won the Screen Nations Awards nod for Favourite West African Actor and Actress respectively on Sunday at a ceremony held at the Indigo O2, Peninsular Square, London. The two winners were however missing at the ceremony which saw top several black UK achievers in attendance. Majid beat off stiff competition from fellow Ghanaian actor John Dumelo and Nigeria�s Mike Ezuruonye, Osita Iheme, Ramsey Noah and Hakeem Kae Kazim to win the award. Omotola Jalade also beat Ghana�s Ama K Abebrese, who was crowned Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2011 Zimbabwean International Film Festival (ZIIF) last week, and Jackie Appiah, and fellow Nigerians Funke Akindele, Genevieve Nnaji and Mercy Johnson to win the nod. Nigeria�s �The Mirror Boy� stood tall against competitions from Ghanaian films �Perfect Picture� and �Sinking Sands� and fellow Nigerian films �Ije�, �Inale�, and �The Figurine� to win the Favourite West African Film award. This is the first time Africa is receiving nominations at the prestigious awards which has been at the forefront of acknowledging the best in Black-British talent for over seven years.In all, 22 categories were awarded on the night including Diversity in Drama Production, Favourite Urban Movie, Cinema Director, Favourite International Film (US), Favourite Male Screen Personality (US Film/TV) and Favourite Female Screen Personality (US Film/TV).
