Lydia Forson In Focus

The fact that Lydia Forson is having a lot of acting contracts this year would not have been news but for the reason that a section of the Ghanaian media had written her off as someone whose career would crash without Shirley Frimpong Mansos Sparrow Production. Indeed, Lydia Forson was last seen in Shirleys A Sting In A Tale and she has since then not appeared in any of her movies. Prior to that, she appeared in Different Shades of Blue and Scorned in 2008 and got nominated for African Movie Academy Award (AMAA) Best Upcoming Female Actress. She starred in Perfect Picture and co-won AMAA Best Actress with Jackie Appiah and Naa Ashorkor. Currently, the young lady is waiting for the release of some of her productions sometime this year. One of such is world class movie Phone Swap, which was directed by Nollywoods multiple award-winning director, Kunle Afolayan. The movie has been described as another revolution to hit Africas cinema like The Figurine did a couple of years ago, grabbing 5 awards at the African Movie Academy Awards after getting 10 nominations. Its cast has also been described as unique, with Nollywoods Nse Ikpe Etim and Lydia playing interesting roles in it. Lydia also featured in Masquerades, a short Christmas comedy that brings back memories of how families come together during Xmas season. She co-wrote it with manageress Habiba Nelson and featured other great stars such as Adjetey Annang, Desmond Elliot, Senanu Gbedawo, veteran actress Dzifa Gomashie and Ebenezer Donkor popularly known as Katawere. Lydia acted with Katawere for the first time in Masquerades and those who saw the movie praised it. Also, she has done other productions in Nigeria with Desmond Elliot which are yet to hit the movie screens. Lydia is among the few Ghanaian actors who are always selective when it comes to accepting scripts. That justifies her limited number of movies but even with that, she is more popular than some actors who have featured in more movies.
