The Tragedy Of A Bean Meal, Another Person Dies

One more person has died in the food poisoning incident at Yampeilto, near Buipe following the discovery of the body of one more victim who ran into a nearby bush after eating the beans meal. The deceased was discovered by a search party after it was learnt that the victim, one Adam, who took part in the beans meal on Monday evening had run into the bush moments after the meal allegedly to attend to the call of nature. His body has since been transferred to the morgue of the Tamale Teaching Hospital for autopsy. The death of Adam brings to eight the number of people who have been affected by what appears to be food poisoning. Meanwhile, the two other surviving victims are responding to treatment at the hospital. According to Dr Fidelis Atia, Madam Ajara Harunna, wife of the deceased landlord, has now regained consciousness as her situation has become stable and has been asking of the whereabouts of the other family members. The other victim, little Minawara Harunna, is also doing well and has since been moved to the paediatric unit where she is equally responding to treatment. The remains of the other seven victims are still at the morgue of the hospital awaiting a post-mortem to establish the actual cause of their death. The victims were said to have consumed a beans meal last Monday evening. They subsequently fell ill and started foaming in the mouth. They were later sent to the Buipe Hospital where some of them died. On their way to the TTH, the rest also died. However, the eighth victim, Adam, was said to have run into the bush to allegedly free his bowels. No arrest has been made yet even though the police have commenced investigations into the incident.
