Big Cash For Best Local Actors

LOCAL MOVIE actors and actresses that have distinguished themselves in the fast growing movie industry in the past year would soon be awarded in recognition for their good works on the screen. These lucky actors and actresses, as well as all those that have played leading roles to make the local movie industry grand, would be honoured on the night of December 2 this year. The crme-de-la-crme in the local movie industry would for the first time assemble in the Garden City to take their awards during the Kumawood Festival and Akoben Movie Awards 2011. Making the announcement in Kumasi during the launch of the awards, PRO of Kumawood Entertainment and Concept Development, Afia Schwarzeneger, said the film festival would start in Kumasi from November 28 to December 3, 2011. She said the festival would be replicated every year and it was being organized to help inculcate the rich Ghanaian culture in local movies and as well make the industry grow at a faster rate. Schwarzeneger said apart from honouring the best players in the local movie industry in the past year, five other honorary awards would be given to some special people who had in the past helped the industry to grow. On his part, Samuel Darko, founder of Kumawood Film Festival and Concept Development, said the programme was being organized ostensibly to provide more opportunities for film makers. He said it was also aimed at promoting indigenous Ghanaian filmmaking, adding that the healthy competition that would emerge among actors and actresses would also contribute to promoting the industry. Over 40 people in the local movie industry would be honoured on the day and the categories include Most Favourite Actor and Actress, Best Film, Editing, Best Screen Play, Best Directing and Best Visual Effects.
