MTN Hits 10m Milestone

MTN Ghana yesterday announced its 10 millionth subscriber at the Golden Tulip in Accra. By this feat, MTN currently has more than half of mobile phone subscribers in the country. Announcing the milestone, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN, Michael Ikpoki said the companys success was not achieved on a sliver platter, but has been largely guided by our strong values of Leadership, Relationship, Innovation, Can do and Integrity. Expressing his excitement at the achievement, Mr. Ikpoki noted that we at MTN are proud of the confidence our valued subscribers and the Ghanaian public have reposed in us. We promise to continue to provide value for money services as we celebrate this milestone. He noted that MTN has demonstrated its commitment to the socio-economic development of the country by investing more than $1 billion in telecommunications infrastructure across the entire country, making it possible for the network to reach all regional capitals, major towns and many villages. By these significant investments, MTN has lived up to its slogan everywhere you go providing relevant telecommunications solutions to the people of Ghana, the CEO added. He indicated that despite the companys successes, it has faced several challenges, notably among them are the theft of copper cables and the destruction of underground fibre optic cables deployed throughout the country have contributed largely to unwarranted interruptions to our network transmission. He added that road and building contractors have persistently destroyed these expensive investments without regard to its implications to our business, the subscriber and tax losses to the state. Additionally, Mr. Ikpoki said arbitrary operating fees charged by regulatory agencies, municipal and district assemblies also place a toll on our operations. He noted that these challenges are being addressed accordingly and expressed the hope that therell be amicable solutions and assured subscribers that MTN will explore the most advanced technologies in its operations to ensure the provision of quality services to satisfy customer needs. Minister of Communications, Haruna Iddrisu, who was the guest of honour, congratulated MTN for its success and called on them to further improve on their services. He added that telecommunications services are no longer a luxury, but a necessity, and operators must make it a point to improve on the services they provide to subscribers. Haruna Iddrisu said the government will not tolerate the slightest disruption of service because of its implication on lives and businesses. To celebrate the achievement, MTN has several packages for its subscribers. Some of which include bonus on recharge, pay monthly offer and other packages like give away of airtime on selected radio stations across the country.
