STX Deal Hits A Snag; Case Adjourned

The STX Housing deal which was meant to construct about 200,000 housing units in the country has been dealt another major blow just when it seemed all was well for it to take off. Last week, the Chief Executive Officer of STX Ghana, B. K Asamoah gave indications after a court proceeding that he was going to pay off the Korean partners so proper work can begin on the project. When the issue was raised in court on Thursday, the lawyer for the Korean partners Osafo Boabeng said he is yet to receive instruction from his Seoul-based clients as to whether to go ahead with the financial settlement or otherwise. He said the final decision of whether or not they would settle with the payment from the Ghanaian partners lies solely with the Koreans and not B. K Asamoah and his team. According to an Accra-based radio station Joy Fm, the decision left the judge baffled because ahead of proceedings it appeared all would be over today for the project to materialise. The judge, however, gave both parties a one week ultimatum to settle the issue and to return on December 14 to inform him of the final outcome.
