Blows At NDC Office

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency office in New Juaben South was turned into a boxing arena Wednesday, when supporters of two parliamentary aspirants engaged in an open display of fistcuffs. Kofi Asamoah Afoakwa and Janet Dede, supporters of Dr. Owusu Acheampong and Ransford Owusu Boakye respectively, who are to contest the party primary today Saturday, exchanged blows around 6:30 pm on Wednesday, after a heated exchange of words. The Chronicle newspaper gathered that during the vetting of the two parliamentary aspirants, two months ago, Asamoah and Dede engaged in verbal exchanges, but the executives of the party intervened. Dede, who was not happy with the way the constituency executives handled the situation, went to the party office on Wednesday, when she got the hint that Kofi Asamoah Afoakwa, who is physically challenged, was on his way to the office. When Afoakwa finally arrived, Dede subjected her party colleague to severe beatings. The two were later arrested and taken to the Central Police Station and detained. The Eastern Regional Organiser of the party, Mr. Bismark Tawiah Boateng, later went to the police and pleaded with the law enforcement agency to release the suspects for the party to settle the matter at home. There is tension brewing in the constituency as supporters of the two candidates are bracing themselves to cause confusion today. The police have confirmed the story.
