Ghanaian Child Star Wins 2 BAFTA Awards

The British Academy Children�s Awards took place earlier this week in London, celebrating the very best in children�s film, television, games and online media of the past year and the talent behind their successes. Hollywood golden child 12 year old Kwesi Boakye is the voice of Darwin Watterson on �The Amazing World of Gumball�, a brand new International show on Cartoon Network which combines 2D and 3D animation in a live-action setting, and follows the misadventures of 12-year old Gumball and his innocent, naive brother Darwin. Kwesi�s character Darwin used to be the family pet until he sprouted legs and became one of the Watterson�s. In an interview with Daniel Lennard, executive producer and vice president of original development,Cartoon Network said �In terms of favorite characters, Darwin is probably my favorite. He�s really cute (amazing job by the actor Kwesi Boakye!) and full of surprising talents� in one episode he starts yodeling� The freshman animated series received its international debut in May, and has since rewarded Turner Broadcasting /Cartoon Network with its first of the prestigious children�s BAFTA awards for the network. Kwesi was ecstatic to receive news that the �The Amazing World of Gumball� would be taking home the honors of Best Animated Show and Best Writing. Kwesi said �I�m soooo happy and excited. I knew the show was in London but I didn�t know how much the kids loved it. I�ve always worked on adult shows, so to have kids my age love our show is awesome!� The BAFTA kids vote competition powered by Yahoo attracted over 400,000 votes from 7-14 year-olds in the UK. This isn�t the first time Kwesi has been a part of an amazing cast, earlier this year TNT�s original sitcom �Men of a Certain Age� received a major prestige boost by making the Peabody list. The Peabody Awards recognize excellence and meritorious work by radio and television. This was TNT�s first Peabody victory since 2002; �Men of a Certain Age� received ace reviews from TV critics as well. The Network released a statement about how proud they are to be a part of �Men of a Certain Age� for two seasons. The show has featured great storytelling and impeccable performances by its very talented cast.� Kwesi has made a huge name for himself starring in blockbuster films such as Disney�s �The Princess and The Frog�, Tyler Perry�s �I Can Do Bad All By Myself�, and has also lent his incredible talent to many top rated television shows including �Men of a Certain Age�, �The Mentalist�, �Hawaii Five-O�, �Southland�, �Community�, �Hawthorne�, �Day Break�, �The Shield� and many more. 2012 already holds great promise for young Kwesi with Tinsel Town buzzing over two of his upcoming projects. His anticipated performance in the films �Unconditional� which also stars Michael Ealy and �Lives of the Saints� where he plays hip-hop mogul�s Curtis �50 Cent� Jackson�s son. Also a budding philanthropist, Kwesi recently lent his name and creative talents to the �Nextaid� foundation and donated 100% of his interest to the charity.
