Mighty Jets Ends First Round In Style

Tudu Mighty Jets ended the first round of the 2011/2012 Glo Premier League on a good footing after beating Berekum Arsenal 2-0 on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium. Midfielder Tamimu Muntari and striker Sidi Abubakar scored in each half to push their side out of the relegation zone as the first halve of the season reaches its climax. The victory is the fourth for Mighty Jets who have been hanging in the bottom halve of the league ladder all season. For visiting Arsenal, the result marked their ninth loss in 15 matches in a season that has seen them struggle all through. It was yet another improved performance from Mighty Jets and they dominated possession from the onset. But they had to wait till the half-hour mark to break the deadlock from the spot. Youngster Benjamin Agbeko laid a perfect pass to Sidi who was fouled in the penalty area by Arsenal goalie Mutawakil Rashid. Tamimu converted the resultant penalty for the first goal of the closely contested encounter. Back from recess, it was Arsenal all the way as James Boadu and Collins Adjei raided the Mighty Jets defence consistently. Adjei and Eric Asiedu missed narrowly in their quest to draw even. On 65 minutes, the Arsenal defence were punished for a loss of concentration which led to the second goal for Mighty Jets. Sidi, who profited from the loss of concentration by the Arsenal backline beat onrushing Rashid before firing into the yawning net. Mighty Jets had the better of the remainder and made sure their opponents returned to their base empty.
