Real Madrid 1 Barcelona 2... Rooney Brands Pepe An Idiot...

REAL MADRID'S Pepe sparked a storm by STAMPING on Lionel Messi's hand at the Bernabeu, as Real crashed 2-1 to their deadly rivals. Eric Abidal was the shock match winner, prodding in only his second Barca goal in five seasons 13 minutes from the end of a typically physical clash. But it was Pepe's cynical gesture which went unnoticed by the referee that added unecessary spite to this Copa del Rey quarter-final first leg. The fiery Portugal international was already on a yellow card when he bundled into Messi and trod on the outstretched hand of the world player of the year as he sat on the turf. The action was seen clearly by TV viewers worldwide and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney immediately branded the combative defender an "idiot" on Twitter. After the game, Real boss Jose Mourinho said: "I didn't see what happened. Apart from that, he played a great game." When pressed about whether the club would take action against Pepe, Mourinho said: "Obviously if it is intentional, it is punishable." Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez, who witnessed the incident, said: "Unfortunately these are plays that are there but the referee didn't see. That was brutal." Watching from home, Rooney tweeted: "Pepe. What an idiot. Sometimes people wind u up." Pepe had been red carded in last season's 'El Clasico' in the Champions League semi-finals and was booked in the 17th minute of this clash for bustling into Sergio Busquets.
