Police Appeal For Bullet-Proof Jackets

The police have made an urgent appeal to the public including non-governmental organisations to provide them with bullet-proof jackets and helmets to enable them combat crime effectively. The appeal comes in the wake of the shooting to death of a police officer at Tuba in Accra. The Director General of Operations made the appeal during an interview with The Finder newspaper in Accra. Commissioner of Police (COP) John Kudalor said, We have about 1,000s of bullet-proof jackets which cannot go round all the 23,000 police personnel in the country. According to him, the situation did not augur well for effective crime combat given the sophisticated nature of crime in recent times. COP Kudalor noted that government was helping the police in getting the tools and equipment needed, but added that it (government) could not do that all by itself. We are calling on philanthropists to come on board since policing has become a shared responsibility, he added. He described as unfortunate the recent fatalities suffered by the police at the hands of armed robbers. We are revising our strategies to combat crime effectively and to meet the current trend of crime, COP Kudalor said.
