Black Stars To Prove A Point Tonight

A depleted Black Stars side face their Chilean counterparts, Le Roja (The Red Ones) in an international friendly at the PPL Park in Philadelphia, USA, tonight. Key performers like skipper John Mensah, the Ayew brothers, Dede and Jordan, Agyemang Badu, Samuel Inkoom, Asamoah Gyan and Isaac Vorsah will not be present for the national assignment owing to various reasons. And their absence has certainly granted those available for today�s task an opportunity to prove a point. Two new players in the persons of Sweden-based Abdul Majeed Warris and Patrick Nyarko of Chicago Fire, USA, have been handed late call-ups owing to the Ayew brothers� injury situation. Derek Boateng and John Paintsil, who arrived ahead of their mates in New Jersey, were joined by goalkeepers Adam Kwarasey, Daniel Adjei and Lee Addy. Other first timers Dominic Oduro (Chicago Fire, USA) and Italy-based midfielder Afriyie Acquah are also in camp together with AC Milan�s new-kid-on-the-block Sulley Muntari, Daniel Tawiah Opare, John Boye and Kwadjo Asamoah. Jonathan Mensah, Masahudu Alhassan and local strikers Emmanuel Barffour and Richard Mpong joined the team with trainer Goran Stevanovic yesterday. The Stars, who seek to appease their fans after a Nations Cup fiasco, trained at the PPL Park, the match venue, yesterday evening ahead of today�s clash. The Chileans, ranked 12th in the World, have appeared at the World Cup finals on eight occasions. They will be guided in tonight�s game by coach C. Borghi. They lost 0-2 to Paraguay in their last friendly game and will host Peru on March 20 in their next exercise.
