Muntaris Ghost Goal Pushes Blatter For Goal-Line Technology

FIFA president Sepp Blatter says Sulley Muntaris disallowed goal in a Serie A game last week has forced him to reconsider his decision on goal-line technology. The 27-year-olds header from close range crossed the line by more than three yards but was disallowed in a highly tensed game against Juventus at the San Siro. Blatter had been an avowed campaigner against the use of technology in football but has been forced to reconsider his resolve after the incident last month. The 76-year-old is hopeful he can convince football rule-makers to approve goal-line technology for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil. We dont want a repeat of last World Cup (and the) experiences in last week in Italy, Blatter said, referring to some disallowed goals in Serie A. I think I can convince the IFAB board that we must go forward with technology. We cannot afford to just wait and see what happens. Serious debate erupted after the 2010 World Cup finals when Frank Lampards goal was disallowed against Germany.
