Nine Benkum SHS 'Rapists' Dismissed From School

The school authorities of Benkum Senior High School in Akropong Akuapem, have dismissed the nine boys who allegedly gang-raped a 17-year-old female student. The boys who are currently standing trial at the Mampong Circuit Court were given the marching orders on Monday afternoon. According to Citi News reporter, Kwame Appiah Kubi, the legal counsel for the defendants have strongly opposed the decision of the school authorities to expel them and may seek to compel the school to readmit them. Other parties including the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Akuapem South Municipality are also trying to meet with authorities of the Benkum Senior High School to persuade them to reverse their decision. Five boys were initially arrested on February 27, while four others who were on the run were later captured by the police.
