The Akan proverbial phrase of when the sheeps who went grazing have not returned, we do not drive another batch into the bush cannot be taken lightly in the current economic situation of the Country.
The continuous rejection of calls and motions to provide information on how Government of Ghana expended all COVID-19 cash it received in the name of the people of Ghana is not only worrying but extremely disingenuous especially at a time when the Government asking for more money through an electronic transaction levy.
Even though Ghanaians have unanimously rejected the levy, we in Civil Society being privy to the current financial position of the Country knows that times are hard and the Government needs the extra revenue very badly.
Irrespective of the possible negative impact of the e-levy, we are willing to make some meaningful compromise and support the e-levy to be approved by Parliament but on one condition.
That the Government provide a comprehensive accounts of all COVID-19 expenditures to Parliament and furnish CSOs copies for our independent scrutiny, once this is done and we are satisfied with how our COVID funds were expended and applied, we shall all support the e-levy and put pressure on the Minority to support and it's passage.
This condition is NOT negotiable, No COVID accounts, No E-Levy..its as simple as that and so if the Government needs the e-levy badly it knows what to do to get it passed irrespective of the troubles it is having in it's own party!

In Ontario, Canada. There's a provincial tax called (Hamonous) and it's 13% that is added to everything you buy from the shop. Suppose you see a pair of shoes that is priced at $100, you'd pay additional 13% on it so you'd end up paying for $113 at the cashier. Ghanaians complain too much but expect so much... Even if you go to the bank and exchange money from Canadian dollars to the US dollars, you'd be taxed 7% SO 1.75% IS A DROP IN THE OCEAN AND TELL GHANAIANS NOT TO THINk OF COMING TO NORTH AMERICA BECAUSE TAXES IS WHAT MAKE THIS COUNTRY WORKED USA AND CANADA government DO NOT BORROW TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR CITIZENS
