As the National Sanitation Day exercise begins to take shape, several corporate institutions including churches have shown commitment and their preparedness to ensure our sanitary condition is improved.
Pastors and members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, set aside 28th December, 2014, and came out in their numbers to clean the environs of Osu, Teshie Seashore, Accra Central and Russia.
In an interaction with Pastor Samuel Larmie, who is the President of Southern Ghana Union Conference of the SDA church, he revealed why the church deemed it right to participate in the cleanup exercise.
According to him the time is now for the Ghanaian society stands to gain and save a lot of money if we would start preventing certain curable diseases rather than littering our environment and visiting health facilities for cure.
He called on other churches to their contribution to enhancing sanitation and explained that if the church would also see the need to do their part to improve the physical health just like they do for the spiritual health, our society would be clean. Pastor Samuel Larmie was joined by Pastor WYK Brown when he made this call.
At the Teshie Seashore, Pastor Emmanuel Thompson was there with his members to clean up filth that had been piled close to the sea. The head of the Accra South East District of the SDA church also explained that cleanliness is next to godliness and for this reason; people should endeavor to always create a serene environment.
The Accra Central group led by Abraham Peter Mensah, a pastor in the Southern Union Conference of SDA made some donation to the Ussher Polyclinic after the cleanup exercise.
