A Supreme Court judge, Justice Issifu Tanko Amadu has charged Muslim youth in the country not to allow politicians to engage them for acts of violence before, during and after the upcoming national elections in December 2020.
He indicated that engagement in such activates could jeopardise the political peace, harmony and stability the country had enjoyed over the years and continued to enjoy.
He stated this when last Wednesday (June 10) when he was a Humanity Award was conferred on him by the Humanity Magazine for inspiring the Zongo communities in the field of law.
Award
A citation accompanying the award read “ your appointment as supreme court judge, but as a devoted Muslim has no doubt broke the myth surrounding Islam and practice of law, And this has not just inspired but paved the way for many to study law within our cherished zongos. Also, an opportunity for us to reflect and respect the rights of all, particularly Muslim women, and right to child education.’’
The Humanity Award, an initiative of Humanity Magazine International, is routinely conferred on individuals who have distinguished themselves in public and private spheres of life.
“Avoid making yourselves available for politicians and other persons who intend to use you as tools to cause violence either for election or their own parochial interest, we are all sons the daughter of Allah and I entreat the Muslim youth to follow the teachings of the Quran which seeks to promote peace among humanity,” he added.
Appreciation
He further expressed his appreciation to Humanity Magazine for recognising his effort and honoring him with such an award.
He said he was proud to receive such an honor, adding that he was not going to relent in his effort but rather, the award was going to inspire him to do more to ensure development in the Muslim communities.
Fair hearing
The CEO of Humanity Magazine International, Mr. Yahaya Alhassan, said Justice Tanko’s conduct for fair hearing to provide fair timely decisions has no doubt helped in shaping the judicial industry of Ghana through his interpretation and application of the law along with the constitution.

Thank you, My Lord, for the advice. I hold the view that those who engage in violent behaviours in elections disrupt the voting process and therefore can be likened to armed robbers. Political vigilantism has been banned by an Act of Parliament. Anyone group that goes round polling stations with weapons should be arrested by the youth and treated as armed robbers. The youth should know that these people are the cause of their gloomy future. Show courage, fear no one. Vigilantism or no vigilantism, go and vote. It is a strategy people want to use to prevent you from voting so that their votes will be more for themselves. Beware!
