Former President Jerry John Rawlings says the level of corruption in the country has “gone so deep” since he departed office.
According to him, subsequent Presidents have been weak and that is why they are often not able to prosecute corrupt officials.
Speaking to Kwaku Sakyi-Addo on Asaase Radio, he said he oversaw “neat and clean” politics while in office.
He also slammed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for going down the path of monetization.
Rawlings said the NDC, which he founded, abandoned the moral framework he created for politics in the 1980s to follow Kufuor’s ways.
“Plus, I think they may have decided that if they can’t go along with my kind of neat, clean politics . . . they would like to do it the Kufuor and his NPP way: monetize it,” the ex-president said.
“So, naturally, he would have to leave Kufuor and all his sins alone and engage in the same type of politics, monetizing the whole program, the whole process.
“That is why corruption has gone so deep . . . since I left office,” he said.

Somebody should tell this man to leave Ghanaians alone and remind him that his father was from Scotland and the .mother from Togo..Therefore he should stop forcing himself on Ghanaians.
Yes, this man is a pathological liar. We saw what actual happen during the AFRC and PNDC time. l think Rawlings is mentally ill and he may die as ***barred word***.
When will this guy stop his ***barred word***? His administration was the most corrupt administration Ghana had ever witnessed. Was he not the guy who used state jet/helicopter to teach his daughters how to fly (abuse of power)? He even took money from then Nigeria's HOS, sold GIHOC cannery to his wife which was never paid. I dont know why he thinks he is the only person with brain to rule Ghana? I joined NDC after Rawlings left power.
This Rawlings man who took $5 million cash bribe from Sani Abacha talking about corruption getting worse.... OH GOD! John Ford Mahama also took 5 million euros from Airbus in purchasing aircraft for our Air Force........ Rawlings must first talk about corruption in his NDC party first. Mahama paid some of his ministers double salary for years. Look at the state cars Mahama appointees took away... Crazy...NDC is Ghana's problem. They accuse others of what they are worse at..... They must remain in opposition until they disintegrate.
During JJ time, how many Ghanaians found politics attractive? Compare that to today. JJ was never CORRUPT. The corrupt leaders are those who have made politics the most attractive venture in Gh today...even actors are now becoming politicians. Musicians are now becoming politicians. Thank God for a man like JJ. Just imagine if he had made politics as attractive today as it was during his time...the entire Gh would've been sold by now. Haters and the misinformed go die quick
This man left office with 17 cars for his personal use yet he is taking about corruption.
CORRUPTION IS ONE OF THE LEGACY JJ LEFT BEHIND. THE RE WERE SERIOUS VOTE BUYING AT THE TIME OF JJ. DURING 1996 ELECTION KOOBI, BONTUA, SALT WERE GIVEN TO VILLAGERS TO VOTE FOR JJ. IN 1996 ELECTION THERE WERE SO MUCH DISRUPTION DURING ELECTION BALLOT BOXES GOT LOST AND SOME GOT STUFFED. RIGGING OF ELECTION IS ALSO CORRUPTION. THERE MISUSED OF STATE FUNDS FOR AVEYIME RICE PROJECT AND MANY SOME OTHER PROGRAMES AT JJ TIME. JJ LEFT BEHIND THE 10% CONTRACT DEDUCTION. OBED ASAMOAH USED TO KEEP MONEY UNDER HIS BED WHICH HIS DRIVER STOLE SOME OF IT. ALL THIS HAPPENED WITH JJ THE SO CALLED PROPHET OF ACCOUNTABILITY.
Rawlings is a pathological liar, very dishonest indeed. Does he think he is the only being living in Ghana? His government was the worst ever, given the numerous crimes and prosecution he oversaw against the good people of Ghana. Then, if you match his achievements against the executions ordered against former heads of state, all in the name of eradicating corruption, I ask myself, did it worth it? You see, if Rawlings would keep quiet and stop blaming others for his incompetence and failures, he would be far better off, in the absence of that, he is walking illegality. Indeed, he had no cause whatsoever to always use any platform to attack former President Kufour; for things which are not known to Ghanaians but only left to the sole imagination of Rawlings. It is a well-accepted fact that President Kufour’s administration performed remarkably better for his 8 years term of office as against Rawlings’ 20 years of office, in terms of good governance, economic management, and the handling of corruption. For me, I think Rawlings committed himself to a huge responsibility by killing the Generals and many others. I would have otherwise assessed Rawlings like any failed Head of State in Africa as we have many of them, in Africa. If you commit yourself to such a magnitude of responsibility and expectations by inflicting death punishments on colleagues, thus, subject yourself to high expectations and you, Rawlings failed abysmally to deliver on that.
