Outspoken New Patriotic Party NPP Member of Parliament for Assin Central constituency, Kennedy Agyapong has said that if any person suspects foul play in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumias near fatal accident, his driver must be queried as well.
Dr. Bawumia was involved in a serious accident on Sunday when the car in which he was travelling in skidded off the road and somersaulted several times after two of the back tires burst.
The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Sir John is accusing unnamed officials of the National Democratic Congress of plotting to assassinate its vice presidential candidate in the 2012 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
On Adom FM Tuesday morning, candid-speaking Kennedy Agyapong rather called on the party to query the driver since he was in-charge of the vehicle.
First of all, they (the NPP) have to check the company of the vehicle, maybe there might be a major fault from the manufactures. But here in Ghana we dont normally do that, provided you have your car, you are done. There might be a foul play too; you cant rule that one out but if there was a foul play and someone tempered with the tires, where was the driver? The driver after dropping Bawumia must be in the car 24/7.
It can also be just an accident because that happens all the time, it happened to me as well. I had a flat tire when cruising in my Rolls Royce and someone prompted me to be cautious. It would have been a bad news for me. Its unfortunate but I will console my good friend Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, I think that such an unfortunate accident can happen to anyone. He (Bawumia) should just accept that as an accident, he said.
According to Ken Agyapong, he does not want to read meanings into the accident and even if there was a foul play, the fact that the economist is alive is a clear testament of the Lord's favour to make him President of the nation some years to come.
We should just thank God he (Bawumia) has escaped from this. I dont want to believe the accident was plotted but at the same time, we all have to tread cautiously. This should be a lesson. If there was a foul play, drivers who drive officials must be vigilant. Sometimes you will come out of a meeting and your driver will be nowhere to be found. They must be vigilant and this should be a lesson to the drivers as well if there was a foul play as been said, he advised.
I wouldnt blame anyone, I just thank God for his (Bawumia) life. He will surely be President one day. No one can assassinate him, he added.
The Assin Central NPP MP however rubbished Sir Johns allegation that President Mahama is the brain behind the accident.
I dont support what Sir John has said, where our level of thought-processes are, we are joking! If such accusations are made, you will never know where the main problem is coming from. Its too quick for him (Sir John) to jump to conclusion and accuse the NDC. I dont believe in those things, we must investigate first before coming out with any comment. He (Sir John) is not just any other person but a whole General Secretary of a political party with massive followers. This issue shouldnt be politicized, that wouldnt help. It is about time we stopped this, he advised.
