A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is of the firm belief some stalwarts of the party are being unduly influenced by elements within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to create confusion in the opposition party.
Joe Donkor, who is the Central Regional First Vice-Chairman of the NPP insists calls from some elders and supporters of the NPP for Mr Kyerematen and the three other aspirants to withdraw from the October 18 primaries to select a flagbearer following their humiliating defeat to allow Nana Akufo-Addo, the partys two-time presidential candidate run unopposed, are masterminded by some rented individuals in the party with backing from the NDC.
There is no law in the NPP that says Nana Addo should lead the party unopposedits rubbish. I support Nana Addo and Nana himself like challenges. Those wanting Nana Addo to run alone know their paymasters, he told Peacefmonline.com.
Akufo-Addo polled more than 80% in an election to prune down by two, the seven aspirants hoping to lead the party in the 2016 general elections.
Mr Kyerematen, his fiercest contender, polled less than 10% of total votes cast. He obtained 59 votes out of 740 ballots cast; representing 7.98 percent.
The others, MP for Asante Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Ghartey, obtained 22 votes each, which is 2.98% of total votes cast. Kofi Osei Ameyaw had 16 votes, which is 2.17%.
One of the five candidates who made the final list of five to contest the next stage of competition, Joe Ghartey has already opted out of the race.
In an interview with Peacefmonline.com the NPP guru alleged that, There are some elders in the NPP who have been contracted by the NDC to destroy this party [NPP], if that is really the case I evoke the blood of Jesus on them. If they have been contracted, they should rather use the money to help the NPP rather than to destroy the party. Those Judas Iscariot kind of people know themselves.
