President John Dramani Mahama has taken a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), advising the leadership to close their ranks and get united.
Internal wrangling within the opposition party has led to the indefinite suspension of National Chairman Paul Awentami Afoko. The National Executive Council (NEC) has since named First Vice Chairman Freddie Blay as Acting Chairman.
Mr Afoko on Wednesday announced his intention to proceed to court to challenge his suspension, giving indication of a protracted wrangling around the NPP.
At the same time, Mr Blay chaired a press conference, during which he indicated how comfortable he is acting as chairman of the party.
"So, who is the chairman?" President Mahama wondered on Thursday, November 19 while addressing a rally of National Democratic Congress faithfuls in the Volta Region.
'Opana'
He referred to his former parliamentary colleague, Mr Blay, as 'Opana'.
President Mahama called on the former Deputy Speaker of Parliament to rather address concerns of Mr Afoko than addressing a press conference targeted at his government.
"I thought Opana will rather pay attention to the competence of uniting his party than addressing press conferences at me."
